Homelessness is a reality for many who live on Flint's East Side. Some of those who are at the most risk are young mothers and their children. Mercy House is a long-term transitional housing ministry, aimed at equipping mothers with the skills they need to physically care and financially provide for their families in healthy, sustainable ways.
To make Mercy House a life-changing experience for our families, Franklin Avenue Mission has partnered with Wellspring Lutheran Services. Wellspring is a renowned social service agency, that provides a licensed, clinical social worker to lead the program and coach our mothers to achieve their goals.
Wellspring Lutheran Services is responsible for screening and selecting each applicant that is admitted into the program. Mercy House is capable of housing four women and their children at one time, so it is realized that the demand for admittance will always be greater than what Mercy House is physically able to accommodate.
One of the most impactful opportunities that Mercy House provides is for dedicated volunteers to come help mothers mentor their children. The children of Mercy House have rotating age ranges and are always looking for tutors, mentors, and people willing to run and play on the playground.
All volunteers are required to undergo a background check prior to service.
Donor support is a critical part of ensuring that our mothers and children receive the resources and coaching they need to take the next step towards self-sustainability.
